Antireflection (AR) Coatings:
Reduced Surface Reflection
AR coatings reduce unwanted surface reflection and increase transmission through optical components. HEF Photonics offers single- and multilayer dielectric coatings for UV, visible, and near-IR applications, including custom designs for specific wavelengths, spectral ranges, angles of incidence, and application requirements.

Transparent Conductive Coatings:
Integrated Electrical Function
Indium Tin Oxide (ITO) combines optical transmission with conductivity for applications including EMI shielding, transparent heaters, displays, and sensors. Index-Matched ITO (IMITO) is available for applications requiring improved transmission and reduced reflection when the conductive coating interfaces with liquid crystal, optical cement, index-matching fluids, or other materials.
Sheet resistance and optical performance can be tailored to meet application requirements.

Optical Filter Coatings:
Precise Spectral Regulation
HEF Photonics offers standard and custom optical filters designed to selectively transmit, reflect, or block specific wavelengths or spectral bands. Filter solutions support applications including imaging, sensing, illumination, fluorescence, color separation, night vision, and UV/IR management.
Available solutions include dichroic and color filters, bandpass and notch filters, longwave and shortwave pass filters, NVIS filters, IR and covert filters, and UV blocking or transmitting filters.

Beam Splitter Coatings:
Managed Transmission & Reflection
Dielectric and metallic beam splitter coatings provide controlled reflection and transmission for imaging, sensing, instrumentation, laser, and other optical systems. Standard and custom designs are available based on wavelength, angle of incidence, polarization, and required reflection-to-transmission ratio.

Mirror Coatings:
Broadband Reflection & Thermal Control
HEF Photonics offers metallic and dielectric mirror coatings for applications requiring high or broadband reflection across selected UV, visible, and infrared spectral regions. Available solutions include aluminum, silver, gold, and other metallic coatings as well as custom dielectric designs for specific wavelength ranges and performance requirements.
Semi-transparent and thin or ultra-thin mirror solutions are also available for specialized applications.

Functional Glass Coatings:
Surface Protection & Performance Enhancement
Functional and specialty coatings add surface properties or environmental durability to glass and optical components. Available solutions include oleophobic, hydrophobic, anti-fingerprint, anti-abrasion, autoclavable, and other application-specific coatings for demanding use environments.
Process Overview
HEF Photonics uses multiple thin-film deposition technologies, including magnetron sputtering, Ion Beam Sputtering (IBS), and electron-beam evaporation with Ion-Assisted Deposition (IAD). The deposition process is selected based on the coating design, substrate, optical performance requirements, environmental requirements, and production needs.
In situ optical and quartz crystal monitoring are used as appropriate to control film thickness and maintain consistent, repeatable coating performance.

Our Expertise
Thin film optical coatings offer multiple benefits across advanced photonics and optical systems, including:
Broad Spectral Coverage
Across our coating technologies, HEF Photonics supports applications from approximately 200 nm in the UV to 20 microns in the far infrared. Available wavelength ranges vary by coating type, substrate, and performance requirements.
Custom Design & Engineering
Our team works with customers to understand the complete application—not just the coating specification. Spectral performance, substrate, operating environment, production volume, and cost requirements are considered when developing a coating and manufacturing approach.
Comprehensive Testing and Inspection
Measurement and inspection capabilities include spectrophotometry, four-point probe testing for conductive coatings, colorimetry, environmental testing, laser damage threshold testing, and abrasion and adhesion testing to applicable MIL and ISO requirements.
Integrated Optical Solutions
HEF Photonics combines glass and optical fabrication, strengthening, patterning, thin-film coating, and testing capabilities to support programs from development through volume production.
